This Labor Day weekend, while staying as a paying guest at the 1 Hotel South Beach, I discovered another gem to add to Miami Beach’s culinary map: Habitat, helmed by the incredibly talented Chef de Cuisine, Ross Jansen.

Born and raised in South Florida, Ross Jansen found his calling early in life. He quickly rose through the ranks to become an integral member of the 1 Hotel South Beach culinary team. Starting as the Chef de Cuisine at Watr, the hotel's rooftop restaurant, Ross left an indelible mark with his signature dishes. Now, as the leader of Habitat’s kitchen, he is sure to set the culinary world on fire, one plate at a time.

The Habitat Experience: Beyond Fine Dining

Visiting Habitat feels like stepping into a culinary wonderland. The atmosphere is a fine blend of sophistication and warmth, with dim lighting, lush greenery, and elegant wooden decor. But it's Ross Jansen's menu that truly steals the show. Focusing on sustainable, locally-sourced ingredients, Ross crafts dishes that are both ethically responsible and astonishingly delicious.

A Feast for the Senses: Must-Try Dishes

The Short Rib Tostadas feature a hearty mix of charro beans, radish, cilantro, serrano chile, and queso fresco—a delicious tribute to Mexican cuisine with a unique twist. The Chicken Verde Tacos offer a delightful blend of cotija cheese, crema, pickled onion, fresno chili, tomatillo salsa, and cilantro. One of my favorites was a dessert, the Canella Natilla with Fresh Berries. A cinnamon custard sprinkled with cinnamon sugar tortilla and fresh berries, it's the perfect sweet finale to a magnificent dining experience.
