Where I’m Dining: An Exquisite Dinner at Casa Faena
By: Steve Turk
I had the pleasure of dining at Casa Faena, a hidden gem that more people need to know about. What’s often overlooked is that this cozy spot is home to one of the most talented chefs in the city, Chef Antonio Maldonado, who is crafting a brand-new menu set to launch this October. I was fortunate enough to get a sneak peek of the creations in progress, and they did not disappoint.
Accompanied by my good friend, Executive Chef Cornel Ruhland of the Faena Hotel and District, we immersed ourselves in an evening that felt more like being welcomed into an artist’s home than a restaurant. The ambiance, a blend of warm hospitality and creative flair, perfectly set the stage for an unforgettable meal.
We started with dishes that were as innovative as they were delicious—think Pastrami Kampachi Crudo with Clementine Ginger Water and Avocado, and a Creamy Lobster Ceviche that paired radish pico and yuzu kosho with a surprising hint of mint and chipotle. The attention to detail was evident in every bite.
From the sustainable entrées, the Homestead Farms Cauliflower, with its artful mix of Jerusalem artichoke, thyme, and comte, stood out as a true testament to Chef Maldonado’s creativity. For meat lovers, the Grass Fed Steak from Creekstone Farms, accompanied by hammock greens, pork rinds, and avocado salsa, was a highlight that balanced indulgence with a nod to sustainability.
To finish, the dessert selection was both thoughtful and indulgent. The Passion Fruit Cheesecake, with a blend of mango, goat cheese, and lime, was a refreshing delight. And for those opting for something lighter, the Vegan Sorbet with opal basil and lemon was the perfect palate cleanser.
Dining at Casa Faena felt like discovering a new chapter of culinary artistry in the heart of the city. Chef Antonio Maldonado’s dedication to his craft and commitment to sustainable, creative cuisine left a lasting impression, and I can't wait to see the full new menu come October. If you’re looking for a dining experience that feels both intimate and inspired, Casa Faena is where you want to be. Don’t miss it.
